1. Who we are
This website, paullaursen.com, is operated by Paul Laursen Consulting Inc. ("we", "us" or "our"), based in Revelstoke, British Columbia, Canada. We are responsible for personal information collected through this website and through our coaching, consulting and speaking services. This policy does not cover Athletica (athletica.ai), HIIT Science (hiitscience.com) or the Coaching Prof Substack. Each is a separate service with its own privacy policy.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us. When you use our contact form or email us, we collect your name, email address and the content of your message, plus anything else you choose to include, such as your organization or event details.
Coaching clients. To coach you, we collect your contact and billing details and the training and performance information you share with us. This can include training history, race goals, heart rate, heart rate variability, and injury or medical information relevant to training. We collect health-related information only with your express consent and only as far as it is needed to coach you safely.
Speaking and consulting clients. We collect contact details, organization and event or project details, and invoicing information.
Payments. Payments are handled by third-party payment processors. We do not store full payment card numbers.
Information collected automatically. Our website platform, Wix.com, uses cookies and similar technologies to collect technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, pages visited, referring website and approximate location. This is used to run, secure and measure the website.
Embedded content. Some pages include embedded YouTube videos. When you play a video, YouTube (Google) may set cookies and collect information under its own privacy policy.
3. How we use your information
We use personal information to respond to your enquiries; to provide, manage and invoice coaching, consulting and speaking services; to operate, secure and improve this website; and to meet our legal, tax and accounting obligations. We will only send you marketing emails if you have agreed to receive them, and you can unsubscribe at any time. We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.
4. Legal bases (EEA and UK visitors)
Where the EU or UK General Data Protection Regulation applies, we rely on: your consent (for example, marketing emails and health-related information, which we process only with your explicit consent); the performance of a contract with you (coaching, consulting and speaking services); our legitimate interests in responding to enquiries and keeping the website secure; and compliance with legal obligations.
5. Who we share information with
We share personal information only as needed with:

service providers who act on our behalf, including Wix.com (website hosting, forms, analytics and invoicing), payment processors, and our email and file-storage providers;

Athletica, if your coaching is delivered through the Athletica platform, in which case Athletica's privacy policy also applies to data in the platform;

professional advisers such as accountants and lawyers;

authorities, where we are required to by law; and

a successor organization, if our business is reorganized or transferred, subject to this policy.
We require our service providers to protect personal information and to use it only for the purposes we specify.
6. International transfers
Our service providers may store and process information outside Canada, including in the United States, Israel and the European Union. Information held in another country may be subject to the laws of that country, including lawful access by its authorities. Where EU or UK law applies, transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
7. How long we keep information
We keep enquiry correspondence for up to two years after our last contact. We keep client records for as long as we work together and afterwards for as long as required for tax and legal purposes, generally six years under Canadian tax law. After that, we delete or anonymize it.
8. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards to protect personal information, and this website is served over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Your rights
You can ask to access the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or withdraw your consent to its use, subject to legal and contractual limits. If the GDPR applies to you, you can also ask us to erase, restrict or transfer your information, or object to our use of it. We will respond within 30 days and may need to verify your identity first.
To make a request, email pl@paullaursen.com. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or, in the EEA or UK, your local data protection authority.
10. Cookies
We use cookies that are necessary for the website to work, and Wix analytics cookies to understand how the site is used. YouTube may set cookies when you play an embedded video. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not work properly if you do.
11. Children
This website and our services are not directed to children under 16. If we coach an athlete under the age of majority, we collect their personal information only with the consent of a parent or guardian.
12. Links to other websites
This website links to other sites, including Athletica, HIIT Science, Substack and YouTube. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed. If we make significant changes, we will post a notice on this website.
